What is the story of the Shakuntalam movie?
The story begins with Devraj Indra, who sent the celestial nymph Menaka to earth to disrupt the penance of sage Vishwamitra because he wanted to thwart his friend's meditation under any circumstances. After coming to earth, Menaka met with the sage Misbah and they fell in love, which led to the birth of Shakuntala. However, the condition was that her mother had come to earth to do her job and couldn't take Shakuntala with her because of the rules of Devlok, so Menaka had to leave Shakuntala on earth and go back. After this, a scene of an ashram is shown where the sage Maharshi Karn is imparting education to his disciples.
At that moment, he hears the sound of a child crying, and Rishi immediately goes to where the child is. It is there that he sees Shakuntala, and he realizes that she is the daughter of Misbah Mitra and Menaka. He also knows that Menaka had to leave her on Earth due to being bound by rules. Rishi accepts Shakuntala as his daughter and raises her like his own. She grows up to be a beautiful woman, but one day, the animals in Rishi's ashram attack them. Just as they were about to be defeated, some people enter and kill all the wild animals, saving the people in the ashram. Later, King Dushyant comes and meets some women who were looking for Shakuntala. As soon as he sees her, he falls in love with her at first sight. They spend time together, and after some time, they both fall in love with each other.
Here, Shakuntala and Maharaja Dushyant had taken an oath to stand by each other until death, and they also had a Gandharva marriage which only a few people knew about. Then after some time, there was supposed to be a grand yajna in the ashram, but they encountered a huge crisis to stop the yajna which was named the protection and destruction of Kali temple. Under any circumstances, they wanted to stop the yajna, but the people of the ashram wanted to complete the yajna under any circumstances, and the protection of the temple is very dangerous. Here, we are told about the protection of Kali temple, when Lord Hanuman was going to the Devbhumi to take the Sanjivani herb for Lord Lakshman, he met a sage there, who was actually the protection of Kali temple. They had changed their appearance and became sages. When Lord Hanuman arrived, the sage told him that you are going for a very holy work, so first, he should take a dip in this river. Actually, there was a crocodile in the river which had been sent by the rakshasas of Kali temple. Lord Hanuman killed the crocodile easily and later found out that the crocodile was created by the Kali temple for him. Then Lord Hanuman freed the crocodile from the curse and realized that the crocodile was created by him to help him. After that, there was a debate between them...
Here, a large army comes to attack the Kali Temple Defense Ashram, but Maharaja Dushyant was already prepared and he faces the demons of Kali Temple and easily wins the battle. After winning the battle, Shakuntala had not yet told the Scorpio that she loved Maharaja Dushyant. Finally, Shakuntala told Sage Kanva that she loved Maharaja Dushyant, and after hearing this, Sage Kanva had no objections. After this, Maharaja Dushyant went back to his capital Hastinapur, promising Shakuntala that when he returns, he will take her with him as his queen.
Here, a sage comes who gets very angry. He calls out for Shakuntala, but she is lost in her thoughts and does not hear the voice of Maharishi Durvasa. While Durvasa feels that Shakuntala is listening to everything, she ignores him and this greatly offends him. Therefore, Maharishi Durvasa curses Shakuntala that she will become completely separated from the person whose thoughts she is lost in. The person who loves her so much will not even recognize her anymore. As Maharishi Durvasa is leaving with his followers, Shakuntala's friends stop him and tell him not to do this because if he does, Shakuntala will die. They also inform him that Shakuntala is pregnant. They tell him that she was not disrespecting him but was lost in her love for the person whose thoughts she was lost in. I tell my friends that you cannot lock up a wine bottle because someone used it for evil purposes. If Shakuntala shows herself to King Dushyant, then their love will be reignited. But if Shakuntala or King Dushyant comes to know about this curse, it will remain unbroken...
Because Shakuntala was pregnant and it was very important for her to stay there. After some time, Shakuntala reaches Hastinapur where she is very happy. When she reaches the court and tells them that she is going to be a mother, King Dushyanta tells her that he does not know her as he had only met her once in the ashram. He remembers the services provided to Shakuntala, but not her. This is because the sage Durvasa had cursed him. When the King asks Shakuntala for proof, she shows him the ring he had given her, but she has lost it in the river. Shakuntala is then humiliated in front of the court and all the ministers and people speak ill of her. After hearing everything, Shakuntala immediately leaves the court and runs away. Indra and Menaka also see everything and are very saddened by what is happening to their daughter Shakuntala.
After a few days, a fisherman goes to catch fish and he catches a very good fish. Upon cutting it, he sees a ring on its finger that was quite valuable. He immediately takes it to the palace and upon seeing it, the king remembers everything he did with Shakuntala. All his memories with Shakuntala come flooding back to him and he is filled with love once again. After this, he immediately sends soldiers to bring Shakuntala back, but Shakuntala had become so humiliated that she did not want to stay there. The soldiers made many attempts to find her, but Shakuntala was nowhere to be found. Eventually, King Dushyanta learns of this and realizes that this was a curse and the hand of the Kaliyug demon behind it. Recently, they have been trying to invade his kingdom once again and the defense against the Kaliyug demon has become even more dangerous. After this, a very big battle takes place once again, in which King Dushyanta fights the Kaliyug demons and wins the battle, this time with the help of Lord Indra. After winning the battle, King Dushyanta's only goal is to find Shakuntala, no matter what the circumstances.
After seeing him, they shot an arrow, but we later found out that the boy was actually the son of King Dushyant, but they did not know this. They talked to each other and his manners were good. After some fear, Shakuntala arrived and when King Dushyant saw her, he liked her very much. He apologizes to Shakuntala, but she does not forgive him and leaves. Later, Shakuntala tells about everything that happened to her, including how she suffered and how she found love but could not forget the humiliation she faced in front of the assembly. Finally, Shakuntala forgives her husband King Dushyant, who makes her the queen and takes her to Hastinapur where her coronation takes place. The movie ends here.
